General Education Requirements

General Education (GE) reflects the belief that a portion of a student’s education should be devoted to broadening a student’s awareness.

Courses in writing, critical thinking, mathematics, sciences, arts and humanities, social sciences and ethnic studies are included in all GE patterns.

The requirements listed here are for the 2023-2024 academic year. For prior GE requirements or to determine the best requirements for your educational goal, please meet with a counselor.


Associate in Arts and Associate in Science Graduation Requirements

A.A./AS Graduation requirements

By successfully completing this minimum 24-unit pattern with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, community college students satisfy the general education and competency requirements for the A.A. or AS degree.


California State University General Education-Breadth Requirements

CSU GE-B

By successfully completing this minimum 40-unit pattern with an overall GPA of 2.0, community college students satisfy the GE requirements for the A.A./AS and A.A.-T/AS-T as well as the lower division GE requirements at all CSU campuses.


Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum for CSU

IGETC CSU

By successfully completing this minimum 37-unit pattern with a grade of C (or P) or better in every course, community college students satisfy the GE requirements for the A.A./AS and A.A.-T/AS-T as well as the lower division GE requirements at all CSU campuses.


Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum for UC

IGETC UC

By successfully completing this minimum 34-unit pattern with a grade of C (or P) or better in every course, community college students satisfy the GE requirements for the AA/AS and AA-T/AS-T as well as the lower division GE requirements at all UC campuses.
