Transfer to a Private University

Agreements with Private Schools

Transfer to a private university from community college. Similar to the way the Cal State University has ADTs and University of California has TAG, Mission College also has agreements with private universities in California and in other states to streamline the process of transfer.


Private Universities and Colleges with Transfer Guarantees

The following colleges and universities have transfer guarantee programs with Mission. 

Santa Clara University

Mission College also partners with Santa Clara University to offer a Transfer Admissions Agreement.

Minimum Requirements
  • Only available for majors in the College of Arts and Sciences (excludes  Economics major)
  • Only for admission in the fall term
  • At least 2/3 of the required subject areas must be completed at the time the TAA is submitted.
    • For example, English, Math, and Science are required, thus, two of those three areas must be complete.
    • The third subject area can be in progress at the time of submission.
    • TAA's submitted with only one -or none- of the required subjects completed will be rejected.
  • A minimum 3.3 transferable GPA is required at the time the TAA is submitted
  • Transcripts (unofficial are fine) must be submitted with the signed TAA. However, official transcripts are needed to complete the Common application.
How to Apply
  1. Meet with a Mission College counselor to complete and submit the TAA Form. Mission College will forward the signed TAA along with all college transcripts to Santa Clara University.
    1. Note: Students must bring unofficial transcripts from all colleges attended other than Mission and West Valley to the appointment. If transcripts are not available, there may be a delay in submitting the TAA to Santa Clara University.
  2. Apply to Santa Clara University via the Common Application, by the April 15 deadline. However, students are encouraged to apply sooner for a quicker response.
Deadline
  • Feb 1 is the priority submission date
  • Applications can still be processed until the April 15 deadline.  However, Santa Clara University has rolling admissions, so admission applying earlier is best.

Applications are accepted from January 7 – April 15 every year, and applicants are notified of admission decisions between February and May. 

University of San Francisco

Mission College partners with University of San Francisco to offer a Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program. The GTAP is available for both fall and spring semester transfer and all majors are included except  nursing and engineering.  Domestic applicants who qualify for GTAP, will automatically receive a merit scholarship of up to $17,000.

Minimum Requirements
  • 24 semester transferable units
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Be in good academic standing at your current college
How to Apply
  1. Submit your USF Transfer Application or Common App by the transfer deadline.
  2. Submit college transcripts (can be unofficial)
  3. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or California Dream Act Application if you're interested in financial aid.

Students will be automatically considered for GTAP when they apply.  There are no additional forms required!

Whittier College

Mission College partners with Whittier College as part of the CA Community College Advantage program. CCC Advantage is a special transfer pathway that guarantees admission to Whittier in the student's chosen major. Social Work, 3-2 Engineering, the PICES program for K-12 teaching, and the Whittier Scholars Program are not eligible for the admission guarantee.  Students can apply through the CCC Advantage Program for either fall or spring admission.

Minimum Requirements
  • 30 semester transferable units
  • Minimum 2.90 GPA
Special Benefits
  • Special annual tuition of $28,000 per year
  • Students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better will receive a $5,000 annual scholarship
  • Students who submit a FAFSA or CADAA may be eligible for a need-based Whittier Grant of up to $7,000
  • Students who pay an enrollment deposit will receive individual academic advising
How to Apply
  1. Submit the Whittier College Transfer Application by the transfer deadline.
  2. Submit the CCC Advantage section of the application.
  3. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or California Dream Act Application if you're interested in financial aid.

Students will be automatically considered for CCC Advantage when they apply.  There are no additional forms required!  

Pacific Oaks College
  • Mission College students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • Mission College students must have a conferred Associates Degree by the start of their enrollment at Pacific Oaks College or a minimum of 60 transferable units

In addition, the following must be submitted:

  • Completed Application for Admission
  • Official Transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions previously attended
  • Résumé or Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Official CBEST Scores*
  • Proof of CSET Registration**

*Official CBEST scores required for credential-preparation programs
**Proof of CSET Registration is required for students entering credential-preparation programs

Two months prior to the start of their first semester (Please speak to an Admissions Enrollment Counselor for details on semester start dates):

  • Mission College students must submit all required admissions materials for their chosen program. Please review the Admissions Requirements above or speak with an Enrollment Counselor
  • Mission College Students must sign a "Commitment to Enroll" document and pay a $100 tuition deposit
Palo Alto University

Mission College also partners with Palo Alto University to offer a Transfer Admissions Agreement.

Minimum Requirements
  • 60 semester transferable units
  • Minimum 2.00 GPA
  • Only courses with a "C" grade or better are accepted
  • Completion of the CSU GE - Breadth
Pepperdine University

Pepperdine University offers a Transfer Admission Guarantee for their Bachelor of Science in Management degree completion program.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  2. At least two years of professional work experience
  3. Qualifying 60 units of coursework:
    • 60 transferable semester units. Half of these semester units require a grade of "C" or better in the following subject areas:
      • 3 semester units of English Composition
      • 3 semester units of College Algebra
      • 3 semester units of Physical Science or Biology
      • 6 semester units of Humanities and Fine Arts 6 semester units of Social Science
      • 9 semester units of additional General Education
      • 30 total units

Or

    • Complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), or the California State University General Education (CSU GE) transfer requirements.

Or 

    • Complete a standard associate's degree. Classes must include three semesters minimum of Algebra or higher, and three semesters of English Composition. Please note, your grade must be a C or better.

How to apply

  1. Meet with an enrollment advisor to ensure all TAG requirements are satisfied.
  2. Complete one of the three transfer admission guarantee pathways.
  3. Complete the online application and submit all required documents by the application deadline.
Arizona State

Arizona State University currently offers guaranteed admission to California Community College Students.

Minimum Requirements
  • completion of at least 24 transferable semester credits with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.00 (4.00=“A”) plus either a final high school transcript or GED

OR

  • a fully certified Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or California State University General Education (CSUGE), with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50 plus either a final high school transcript or GED 

OR

  • an associate degree with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50

How to apply

  1. Apply for admission to ASU when you’re ready to transfer.
  2. Enroll in classes at ASU to achieve your undergraduate degree.

Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities

Many private or independent colleges in California participate in the ADT Commitment.  The ADT Commitment is the Independent California College and University sector’s adaptation of the ADT pathway and guarantees:

  • Admission for ADT students meeting admission requirements;
  • A minimum of 60 semester/90 quarter units will transfer;
  • Students will start with junior standing.

Student are advised to review the list of AICCU ADT Participating Institutions and majors.


Historically Black Colleges and Universities

If you are interested in transferring to an HBCU, consider participating in Umoja. Umoja includes tours of these schools as well as empowering and motivating African-American students and other students from disproportionately impacted populations.
