3. Do you have a way to keep our identities from students?

We will gather information from you and send to our students, but we will not tell our students their sponsors' names.  We are the intermediate communicator.

5. How do you help a student develop mind body and spirit? Sounds like a cliché'.

Mind - In contrast to the traditional focus of Asian education on rote learning, Mission College deliberately advances analytical and creative thinking. Success in the challenging modern world demands sound problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills.

Body – each of our sponsored students are required to participate in the college work program. Between 10-15 hours each week is spent in the grounds, garden, kitchen or physical plant where they can learn confidence in dealing with the world around them. The excellent vegetarian cafeteria along with other health programs on campus teach the students to value what God has given them.

Spirit – Each sponsored student is required to participate regularly in dorm worships, Chapels, vespers, and other Sabbath Programs. Our sponsored students take their spiritual growth seriously as they voluntarily participate in campus Bible studies, Bible camps, branch Sabbath schools and other outreach programs.

6. How do you protect against students wanting to abuse the system by doubling up on sponsors?

We prevent sponsored students from taking excess money out of their account. If a student gets more than one sponsor we communicate with the sponsors, seeking permission to move their sponsorship to another worthy student.

7. How do you keep the sponsorship amount so low – surely it must cost more than this to cover tuition, room, and board?

Well it does. We take the total cost costs and divide it into four quarters. The student is expected to work off one quarter, and we try to raise up three sponsors to take the remaining three quarters. So a student at any given time will have three sponsors.

8. I would like to give but am uneasy about committing to four years of giving. Can I give a single payment?

Sure. You may make it as a general donation. Or you can specify a student you would like to help for just one year.

9. Are these really the student's names or do you use pseudonyms?

They are real students in real financial trouble. However we do sometime use pseudonyms. Mostly we have to do this to shelter students from countries which have more difficult governments to deal with. Many of the students on campus adopt western nicknames such as Joe, Fred etc. Even though western nicknames make it easier sometimes it is a little demeaning. So we use the students real name or in cases where there are difficult government issues we have used likely pseudonyms.

10. I would like to help but I am afraid of making a commitment that I am not able to fulfill

Just do your best. If something happens that keeps you from keeping your commitment, let us know as soon as you can so we can figure out something else for the student.

11. I would like to help but do not want to be bugged by the student outside the sponsorship program.

We keep the name and contact information of the sponsors secret. However we do not care if you want to make contact with the student. Simply write the sponsorship director an email. At your instruction we will pass your contact information to the student. We prohibit students from making direct requests for funds from the sponsors we arrange for them. Please let us know if this is a problem and we will speak to the student.

12. What happens if my student has to quit school?

If that happens, we contact you and ask you what you would like to do.

13. May we send birthday and Christmas gifts to our student?

Yes, but remember most of the other students in the program will not be getting gifts. So a modest gift is appreciated and goes a long way. Also gifts that help them with their studies (dictionaries, book bags etc.) make especially good gifts.

14. May we visit our student when we travel to Mission College?
