CTE Works for High School Students 

High school students involved in CTE are more engaged, perform better and graduate at higher rates.

  • The average high school graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE programs is 93 percent, compared to an average national freshman graduation rate of 80 percent.
  • 91 percent of high school graduates who earned 2-3 CTE credits enrolled in college.

What are Career Education Pathways?

In today's job market, most careers require education beyond high school.

  • 20 percent require professional degrees
  • 62 percent require skilled labor

Mission College Career Education Pathways provide an early entry point into a college technical major while still in high school. You begin your course of study in high school and continue in a community college, such as Mission College. You earn college credit toward a certificate or degree which lead to a career, or transfer to a four-year program.

What are the advantages of Career Education Pathways?
  • Save money. College is expensive. The Career Education Pathways college credits you earn are free and apply toward your high school diploma and toward certificates and degrees at Mission College.
  • Save time. Get a head start on your certificate or degree program requirements by earning college credits in your CTE courses before you even set foot on Mission College s campus.
  • Gain confidence and a sense of success. Earning college credits before you leave high school lets you know that you can succeed at Mission College.

For High School Students, Adult School and ROP students: 

Mission College is able to offer students at local high schools, regional occupational programs, and adult schools the opportunity to earn college credit from Mission College for courses taken while at their school. This happens when faculty and administrators from the respective schools and the college meet and work out an arrangement called “Articulation.” An Articulation enables you, the student, to enter college already on a path to graduation. It will help shorten the time between when you enroll and start your classes and when you graduate and complete a program. 

Imagine – you will already have a college transcript showing you have earned college credit before you even enter college!  

The high school articulation process takes considerable effort on the part of faculty to arrange who review the curriculum carefully to ensure that the learning in the school meets the learning requirements of the college course. As a result, you benefit with an accelerated path to a college certificate or degree, so that you can more quickly transfer to a 4-year institution or enter the job market ready to work.

 Active agreements must in place in order for credit to be granted.

Process:

  1. Initiate the process of receiving a transcript or record by submitting a “Request for Articulated Credit: within two years of course completion or high school graduation
  2. With an earned grade of “B” or better you will receive credit on your Mission College transcript.
  3. Establish a Mission College transcript by applying to the College to obtain a Mission College Student ID number, and taking at minimum, a half-unit (.5) course. To see courses available use this Link.  
  4. Student completes the Request for High School Course Articulation and obtains all signatures. The form is turned into the Mission College CTE Counselor, their high school or adult school for processing and credit to be awarded. 
  5. A “Credit by Exam” will reflect on the student’s transcript once the above steps are met.

Please establish a Mission College Identification (ID) Number by completing the College Admissions Application.  A Mission College ID number is required  MIssion College Application

Articulation agreements, once formalized are effective for a two-year period. Currently, Mission College’s High School, ROP and Adult Articulations spans the period from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020. 

Next Articulation Day, April 2020. 

During Articulation Day, college faculty, college administrators, and secondary teachers work collaboratively to review, approve and articulate courses. Find your active articulated courses here

For students to receive college credit, an active articulation agreement must be in place between the school and Mission College at the time the student was enrolled in the class.
